Es heißt Chako stammt vom Mädchenname meiner Mutter.
Woher stammen die Designer?
Meine Mutter lebt in Tokio und ich in Paris und Hong Kong.
Was inspiriert euch und welche Material verwendet ihr?
Uns beeinflussen vor allem Natur und Reisen. Jede Tasche wird aus alten Kimonos und Obis, den passenden Gürteln, gefertigt. Wir möchten neues Leben in die tradionelle japanische Mode bringen, indem wir moderne, aber auch zeitlose und vielfältige Taschen kreiieren. Dadurch wird jede einzigartig.
Seit wann gibt's das Label?
Chako wurde im Jahr 2003 gegründet.
Warum entwerft ihr genau Taschen?
Unsere Kooperation begann im Sommer 2001, als ich meine Mutter um einen Gefallen bat: Sie sollte eine Tasche aus einem Obi aus Seide schneidern, den ich auf einem antiken Markt in Tokio gefunden hatte. Nachdem ich 2002 nach Hong Kong gezogen war, inspierierte mich dies zur Gründung meines Labels. Meine Freunde waren die ersten, die Taschen bei mir bestellten.
Stellt ihr auf Messen aus?
Noch nicht, aber vielleicht in der Zukunft.

We are from Tokyo, Japan. My mother lives in Tokyo and I am currently based in Paris and Hong Kong.
What is the name of the label and what is the idea behind the name?
Our brand is Chako and the name comes from my mother's childhood nickname.
What is the inspiration behind your collection and what kind of materials do you use?
We are inspired often by nature and our travels. All of our products are made out of vintage obi and kimono. We aspire to breath new life into beautiful traditional Japanese fabrics by creating modern, yet timeless & versatile pieces. As a result, each one of our bags are one-of-a-kind.
Since when do you run your own collection?
Chako was launched in 2003.
How or why did you start designing bags?
Our collaboration began one summer in 2001, when I asked my crafty mother for a small favor - to make a handbag out of a silk obi that I found in an antique market in Tokyo. After moving to Hong Kong in 2002, I was inspired to pursue the venture seriously with the encouragements of my friends, whom were already putting in their orders!
Do you exhibit on trade fairs?
We haven't participated in trade fairs yet. We may in the future.
