Where are you from?
I'm from the USA-originally from Oregon but living in New York now.
How or why did you start designing bags?
I recently traveled to Thailand for two years, which is where I came up with the idea for NokHoo bags. I bought a laptop the night before leaving for Thailand but couldn't find a bag I liked to go with it. The practical computer bags looked like they were designed for a camping trip and the fancy bags weren't functional. Since I had a background in design, I decided to create my own. One thing lead to another and NokHoo bags were born!
What is the name of the label?
The name of the label is "NokHoo", which means "owl" in Thai.
What is the idea behind the name?
Since owls are both handsome and wise, it seemed like the perfect name for these bags. In the Thai language, they associate each letter with a word.
The letter H is called “ho nok-hoo”. My logo is a stylized version of this letter made to look like an owl’s face.
What is the inspiration behind your collection?
All the bags feature unique artwork, which is inspired by the things I love; travel, art and culture. You can find some links to my inspiration
Since when do you run your own collection?
I began selling the bags in October 2009.
Do you exhibit on trade fairs?
I'm not currently exhibiting at trade fairs.
What kind of materials do you use in your collection?
The bags are made from cotton, they use metal components (clasps, etc) and feature artwork with screen print, embroidery and/or beading.
Do you have a website?
